Subject: Hola hola!
Well, family. I´m writing to you after having one of the BEST WEEKS of my mission!!! Wahooo! Thank you so much for your fasts and prayers because they are working! Seriously, this week was so great, and when I read your email and saw that you were all fasting for me and Hermana Hart to have success, I was like "well, duh, that's why things went so well this week!"haha so thank you, thank you, thank you!! Mil gracias por todo su apoyo!
First and foremost, Hernan passed his baptismal interview! Yay! His baptism will be this Saturday. He is such a sweet little old man. This Tuesday, we are going with him to the cemetery to visit his wife's grave site. He visits her every week. I know that she is so happy for the steps that he is taking towards their eternal marriage! Pray for him lots this week so that everything goes well. But I just am so grateful for the opportunity to know such a sweet little old grandpa. He is a man of few words, but I feel SO much love for him. I just want to hug him. But don'tworry, I am being obedient. Haha
This week, we also put a baptismal date with the Fernandez family! Its a mom, Marisol and her three children, Rodrigo, Maria Soledad, and Alexandra. The whole family came to church too! (we had 6 investigators in sacrament meeting! It was pretty awesome). They are a very special family. We are praying a whole lot for them, but I feel pretty confident that they are going to get baptized. The mom, Marisol looks just SO familiar to me. When we invited them to be baptized for the 9Th of December, at first, they said no, but after some respectful prying, Marisol said, "Well, lets do it. Lets get baptized all 4 of us!" We basically left that house floating out on a cloud. We were so happy and amazed at how the Lord touched their hearts.
We also put a baptismal date with Mauricio, a man who we had talked to several times in the street. He always told us he would show up to church on his own time. He had listened tomissionaries 14 years ago. Last Sunday, he actually showed up to church (which is a miracle that people actually keep their word here) but didn't feel comfortable going into the building. But he told us that every time we talked to him, he felt a strange tranquility in his heart. And he told us he is VERY VERY interested in our message. Saturday we went to his house with a ward member. He told us that lately he had started drinking a lot and was looking for a change. We felt the need to teach him about the gospel of Jesus Christ, focusing of repentance and baptism. As we listened to what he said, we were able to teach him in such a simple way, but the spirit backed up what we were saying. I felt such a strong peace as we explained how he can receive complete forgiveness. The scriptures also backed up our words as we shared Alma 7:11-14. Mauricio quickly accepted a baptismal date and yesterday showed up to church and entered this time. The Gospel is so beautifully simple and it changes lives!
We are also working with several amazing families: The Jazme Family, Arranda family, and Villalobos family, and Nayarrete, a crazy woman who is really changing as she reads the Book of Mormon. (its notable in her face!). We basically have so much to do and we don't have any, ANY extra time. Even in the pension in the morning, we wake up early to have time to study and still teach our investigators and at night after we return, we spend all our time planning for the next day. BUT I AM SO HAPPY! I love, love being a missionary. I know it sounds cheesy, but everyday I wake up and go to bed so happy and so excited to be a missionary. My prayers each morning still start off with sincere gratitude for the opportunity to serve a mission. I love being a member of the church, a maker of covenants, and a missionary in the Lord's work. The hymn that has come to represent my life and how I feel every day is "Sweet is the Work". It's not to say that we don't have disappointments, or difficulties, but yes it is to say that as we serve the Lord with all our heart and mind and strength. We are HAPPY! I liked something President Gillespie told me in a recent interview. "Its just not fair how great my life is." I really do feel the same way! What did I do to deserve such happiness? But the Book ofMormon always reminds me that the Lord promises us happiness as we serve him faithfully. And this week the Lord has surly blessed us with success this week! I love my companion. We love working together and giving the Lord all we have. Ok, I will get of my soap box. Long story short, It's just not fair how great my life is!
And to brag a little bit more... This Friday, an Apostle is coming to our mission! We don't know who yet...but the whole mission (even the North) is meeting together. AND Herman Gillespeasked Hermana Hart and I and 8 elders sing in a special musical number! Yay! We are so excited.
Life is good. Its just not fair how great my life is! And the best part is, I get to share the joy with EVERYONE! I love you all! I'm sorry I don't have photos, but we just don't have time to take any. Haha
I love you!
